Facing Your Giants

I was reminded this week that there are time in our lives that we will face things that appear insurmountable and impossible to overcome. The giants in our lives have the potential and the ability to distract us from our goals, discourage our hearts, and derail our progress.

In scripture, Moses directed twelve men at the behest of God, to spy out the land of Canaan. When they returned ten of the twelve came back with the report, that in spite of the land being everything that God had said it would be, they could not go in to this wonderful and plentiful Promised Land because there were giants in the land. Furthermore, they did not see how they could possibly defeat the giants because compared to them, they were but mere grasshoppers, not just in their own sight, but also in the sight of the giants as well. That assessment by the ten delayed the Israelites from their promise by forty years.

  • God Must Be Bigger: There can be no situation you face larger than God. He is Greater and higher than anything that can be named. If He is not bigger in your eyes than the situations you face, you will most certainly be as King Saul’s army when Goliath came and challenged them. David had faced a bear and a lion already. God’s track record let him know that if God kept him in those times, facing Goliath was no different.
  • God’s Word Must Be More True: God is not man. He cannot lie. Knowing that alone should be enough to solidify in you that you have a guaranteed victory. God keeps His word and you must see it as more true than any other report that is made regarding you and your situation.

When facing your giant’s, have faith that history reveals God’s consistency and faithfulness to bring to pass any and all things that He sets before you. God has a perfect record for defeating our foes. There is nothing that can withstand Him. If we put our trust in Him, we are certain to win.

When it came time for the people of Israel to face the people on the other side of the walls of Jericho, all they had to do was walk and shout. Face your giant’s and know that you are already on the winning side, even before you’ve come face to face.

QUESTION: What gives you the strength to face your giants?
