6 Reasons To Love That Dark Chocolate

When it comes to living a life of legacy, it is important to note that one key goal in leaving a good legacy lies in living long enough to pass it on. With that in mind, I want to spend some time sharing some things that will help in taking care of the physical body. Recently I shared some health benefits of foods that are rich in nitric oxide. In that post I included a list of many of the foods that contain that nutrient. Today, I want to take a closer look at dark chocolate and point out some other reasons why I like dark chocolate.

Lower Risk of Heart Failure: According to the American Heart Association you can lower your risk of heart failure when your diet consist of moderate amounts of chocolate. This is a definite plus for people who are at greater risk of heart failure due to Sickle Cell Anemia.

Good Source of Nitric Oxide: Of course it bears repeating that because dark chocolate contains nitric oxide, it is great for lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow. Since nitric oxide aids in increasing the absorption of oxygen, this definitely goes a long way to helping with circulation and getting that oxygen everywhere it needs to go throughout the body.

Stroke Prevention: The American Academy of Neurology also reported that moderate consumption of dark chocolate was beneficial in the prevention of strokes in men. Since men are often at greater risk of stroke, this is a great reason to join all those women who obviously have found their reasons for loving dark chocolate.

Beyond Stroke Prevention: It is interesting to note that Psychology Today reports that doctors also credit dark chocolate with helping people who have suffered brain injuries such as concussions and other mild traumatic brain injuries, along with other such health problems like Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson Disease, ADHD, and Autism.

Your Skin Will Thank You: Sarah Knapton, a science editor for the Telegraph reports on a Cambridge University study that found that dark chocolate had benefits for your skin. Since it is something that aids in blood flow and circulation, it is one of those things that really works to make the skin look more youthful and smoother.

Don’t Forget Your Eyes: Men’s Health reports that a study done by Psychology and behavior discovered that there are benefits for your eyes because of the flavonoids that is in dark chocolate.

We face many hardships  and many risks in our lifetime as people that live with Sickle Cell Anemia, but it’s always good to know that there are so many helpful benefits that can be obtained by something so simple as a small piece of dark chocolate. Everything is good in moderation, so always eat that way. The more you know what is good for you, and the more you apply to your daily living, the better of a life you help make possible for you and those around you.
