It has been so interesting to note the number of people that I have been in contact who have been having dreams of earthquakes and shaking. This isn’t to say that there have been an actual increase in the number of earthquakes in actuality, but it is enough to note that within the past thirty days, the United States Geological Survey has recorded a total of eight significant earthquakes ranging from 4.2 to 7.0.
What is interesting to me is that as I’ve been hearing of so many people relay their dreams to me, it most notably turned my attention to a passage of scripture that has been at the fore of my mind since about 2011 if not earlier than that. It is Hebrews 12:26-27 which says ‘whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.” The reality of this passage cannot be more clear that shaking will occur, and just as we are seeing shaking in the actual earth take place, it is not just the natural landscape that is being shaken.
If you’ve paid any attention to the news you will no doubt have noticed the shaking that is taking place in many areas of leadership, be it governmental leadership, as seen in the changing of the guards during the midterm elections both at the state level and national and the recent firing of Baltimore City Police Commissioner Anthony Batts in the wake of increased homicide rates and the fallout over the riots. Then in the area of religious leadership there has been the stepping down of pastor Tullian Tchividjian, grandson of Dr. Billy Graham as well as the recent slaying of pastor and US Senator Reverend Clementa Pinckney. When you look to business leadership, there has been the recent hiring of new CEO‘s for Barnes and Noble, Survey Monkey, and the YWCA.
If all of that shaking hasn’t seemed enough, people’s faith has been shaken. People’s faith in the economy has been shaken as a result of what has happened in Greece and what they’ve seen as a result of the shutdown of the NYSE on Wednesday. People’s faith in government to uphold relationships with Israel as well as certain judicial rulings believed to have been constitutional.
Regardless of whatever you may see as being shaken in the world today, what you should not allow to be shaken is your faith in God. At the end of the day, God is yet in control of it all, even if it doesn’t look like it. All this shaking is purposeful and in the plan to draw your attention to God who is able to sustain, maintain, and uphold you through all that has happened, is happening, and will happen.
There is no doubt in my mind that every shaking is meant to call your attention to what really matters and what you will ultimately put your full faith in. The bible is clear about where our faith should be placed. Will you have faith in what is temporary and is unstable, or will you put your faith and trust in what is everlasting and solid as eternity itself? Only you can make that determination. It is my hope and prayer that you will choose to put your trust in those things that cannot be shaken.
