Have you ever heard the terms builders, boomers, busters and bridgers? If not, you probably aren’t alone. Suffice it to say, these are the terms used to describe four distinct generations of people that currently make up the adult population in America. Builders are the generation that was born approximately between 1922 and 1942. The Boomer generation is the generation that was born between the years of 1943 and 1962. The Buster generation was born between 1963 and 1982. The Bridger generation was born between 1983 and 2002.
What is fascinating to me about each of these generations is that each has faced their own degree of trials and triumphs. Each has faced their own sets of challenges. Each has also met the challenges in their own unique ways.
So often, we hear people mention things such as generation gaps, which is what people often believe exist between the generations, as a barrier to communication and genuine dialog. This week’s Blab is intended to be the first in a series of Blabs, that not only look at those differences but to also reveal where there is consensus. Stronger communities are built upon common ideas and understanding. If you are unfamiliar with Blab, read my posts “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Blab?” or “Will You Be Watching When I Blab My Heart Out?”
This week on Blab, I have as a special co-host, Dr. Vibe, from The Dr. Vibe Show who will be joining me on a special night, for my first Blab of 2016, so that we can discuss some of the different challenges that each of these generations have faced, how they’ve dealt with it, and exactly whether or there are commonalities between the generations and where there are differences. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Dr. Vibe, he is a highly prolific digital media personality who has hosted and produced his own podcast for the last decade, has done over 1000 interviews with people from all over the world, and has even been featured on platforms such as HuffPost Live.
Our key topic of discussion will start with racism and feminism. How does each generation view it? What does it mean to each generation? We want to get right to the heart of each of the issues. If time permits, we may even speak about the education system.
I invite you to join us on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at 9 PM EST, as we begin the conversation. I welcome you to bring your thoughts, your questions and even propose ways in which we can bridge the generational divides where they exist in how each topic is approached.
