Living Forward: A Proven Plan to Stop Drifting and Get the Life You Want

There can be no doubt that everyone can benefit from getting their life in order and on track. I know there have been so many times in my own life that it seems as though my life is on autopilot but has gone off course. This was because for years I did not understand that you could have a purposeful and strategic plan for your life. It’s amazing that we can think that a business should have a written plan before you start it or expect to have it financed, yet not have that same expectation for our personal lives.

God to the prophet Habakkuk to tell the people to write the vision and make it plain upon tablets. If nations like the nation of Israel was expected to make a plan, cities, states, and even organizations make written plans, then why not us as individuals?  bonus-single-final

About a decade or more I happened to be presented with the concept of creating a personal life plan. I’ll admit that while at that particular time in my life I had not been successful in writing it out in a way that I achieved the progress I had imagined, it stuck in my mind and gnawed at me that I needed this structure if I ever hoped to have a purposeful life that was intentional .

Recently, I came across Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy’s new book Living Forward: A Proven Plan to Stop Drifting and Get the Life You Want. It has reminded me of the need to live by a life plan. Having read it has not only fueled that passion for my life, but it has ignited my zeal to make sure that the life I am living is a life that I have planned and not one that I am abdicating to someone else to plan for me. This was the failing of Adam in the Garden of Eden and we cannot think that we are any better if we do not learn the lesson that both he and the Last Adam have presented to us as how not to and how to get it right.

There can be no doubt that our lives matter to us. The legacy we leave others will be predicated upon how well we live it and commit ourselves to making sure that we have given our best not just to others, but to ourselves and God who created us. A wise brother in Christ would always say “until God says of me ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant’, I want to hear Him say, ‘In him, I am well pleased’.”

Living Forward is undoubtedly one book that I’d say gives phenomenal depth and wealth of insight into the need for and the practicality of creating a life plan.  Anyone who desires to have a life that does not run adrift can absolutely benefit from this book. Everyone who knows the value of building a legacy and being a good steward of time, energy and success in life will want to read this if for no other reason than to give themselves a good swift kick in the rear.

While someone might be tempted to read this either at the end or beginning of the year, as this is the time when most become reflective and do yearly resolutions and planning in other ways, I’d encourage anyone to read this the first chance possible. There’s no time like the present to make a positive change to benefit your life and the lives of those who mean the most to you.

QUESTION: How might your life benefit from having a strategic life plan?
