The Indwelling Spirit [Book Review]

As part of one of my classes this spring, I was challenged by my professor to incorporate a devotional reading into my daily regimen. In all honesty, this is not anything new for me. I actually love devotional readings. Some devotionals can be more challenging than others out of the sheer depth of content because the author of it is very much a theologian. I should preface this review by letting you know that each of the devotions we were to choose from had to be specifically related to the Holy Spirit.

With the given devotionals that I could choose from, I decided to choose The Indwelling Spirit by Andrew Murray. It was actually the first time I’ve read anything by him, although I have heard of him for years. In reading this specific devotional, I was immediately impressed by the writing style of Murray who does not make it difficult to grasp his meanings when he speaks of the Holy Spirit and the place that the Holy Spirit has in the life of Christians.

Whether you’re like me, reading this as a Divinity student or just wanting something to affirm your understanding and igniting the flames of passion in your relationship to the Holy Spirit, you will find that this book gives you everything you need for reflection, meditation, inspiration and even application. This book is absolutely thought provoking, faith strengthening, and wisdom increasing.

I personally found this particular book to meet me right where I was spiritually, in ways I had not even know I needed to be met. I think any good book of devotion should be able to do that. If you desire that growth, that fire, that push to go to a new level in Christ, consider Andrew Murray’s book The Indwelling Spirit.
